Frequently asked questions

Why do the ingredient weights keep changing when I ...

Brewtoolz recipe calculator is designed to work on the gravity or IBU/volume contributions of ingredients, and if the volume or OG or efficiency of the recipe is changed, the weights are automatically adjusted to compensate.

This is great if you are creating a recipe from scratch and have an IBU figure or OG that you want to try and target but can be really annoying if you are trying to enter specific weights.

Locking an ingredient allows you to make sure the weight will not vary based on changes in volume or efficency, and gets around the problem of weights changing when you dont want them to.

A whole recipe can be locked so that you don't have to click on every single ingredient. If you take this option it will behave much more like the traditional recipe calculators. If you select this option, you will be asked if you want weights modified when updating the recipe volume.

You can even set up your preferences to automatically lock recipes, so that there weights dont change all the time.
